A part of the Kluge Center's ongoing Baruch S. Blumberg NASA/Library of Congress Astrobiology Program, the meeting is designed to investigate the intersection of astrobiology research with humanistic and societal concerns. The 2 day event will gather between 8 and 10 scholars from the fields of the history and philosophy of science, and will be directed by Derek Malone-France, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Religion at the George Washington University, and John Baross, Professor of Oceanography and Astrobiology at the University of Washington.
The group will collectively identify and explore potential paths of development for further thinking about the humanistic and societal implications of astrobiology-which NASA defines as encompassing the study of the origins and evolution of life on Earth; the search for life beyond Earth; and the future of life both on and beyond Earth.
